2027 is the Year of the Goat — specifically the Yin Fire Goat, Jeongmi (丁未). It begins at Lunar New Year on Feb 6, 2027 (Feb 7 in Korea) and runs to Jan 25, 2028. Below: why the dates differ, what the Fire Goat means and how tradition reads 2027 for each of the 12 signs.

| Korean Seollal 2027 | Sunday, Feb 7, 2027 (holiday Feb 6–9 incl. substitute day) |
| Vietnamese Tết 2027 | Feb 6, 2027 |
| Ipchun / Lichun 立春 | Feb 4, 2027 · 10:46 KST (09:46 Beijing) |
| Goat year ends (China) | Jan 25, 2028 — Earth Monkey starts Jan 26, 2028 (Korea Jan 27) |
The new moon that opens the year occurs at about 23:56 Beijing time on Feb 6, 2027 — four minutes before midnight. In Korea (UTC+9) it is already 00:56 on Feb 7, so the Korean lunar calendar starts the year a day later. This happens a few times a century (1997 and 2028 are other examples). Saju and Bazi ignore Lunar New Year for the year pillar and switch at Ipchun, the solar term when the sun reaches 315° longitude.
The stem 丁 (Jeong/Ding) is Yin Fire: the candle or lamp rather than the sun, a focused and warm light. The branch 未 (Mi/Wei) is the Goat, an Earth sign that stores the last heat of summer. Fire feeds Earth, so the pair is read as harmonious and nurturing — a year associated with care, culture, the arts, food, home and patient work rather than dramatic conquest. Its nayin is Heavenly River Water (天河水): rain from the Milky Way, the heavenly river: generosity, idealism and a nourishing influence that falls on everyone.
Fire Goat years in living memory were 1967 (and 1907). Each Goat year has its own flavour: Metal 1991, Water 2003, Wood 2015, Fire 2027, Earth 2039.
| Sign | Recent birth years | Relation to 2027 | Traditional reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rat | 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020 | Harm with Tai Sui (害太岁) | Rat and Goat form a Harm pair (and a Korean wonjin pair), so folk readings warn of misunderstandings, gossip or small setbacks in 2027. Over-communicate, double-check messages and avoid taking sides in other people’s quarrels. |
| Ox | 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021 | Clash with Tai Sui (冲太岁) + punishment | Ox and Goat sit directly opposite each other, so in Chinese folk belief the Ox "clashes with Tai Sui" in 2027, and the Ox–Goat–Dog punishment group adds tension. Tradition reads this as a year of movement—relocation, job change, reorganised plans—where caution with contracts, health routines and conflicts pays off. |
| Tiger | 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022 | No special relationship with the Goat | Your sign has no classical harmony or clash with the Goat, so 2027 is read as a "neutral" year in which results depend on your own effort and on the rest of your chart rather than on the year sign. |
| Rabbit | 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023 | Three Harmony (Wood trine) with the Goat | Your sign shares the Wood trine (Pig–Rabbit–Goat) with 2027, a traditionally co-operative pairing that favours growth, learning and new networks. In Korean folk practice, though, Pig, Rabbit and Goat are in their final samjae (삼재) year, nal-samjae, so the advice is to finish things cleanly rather than overreach. |
| Dragon | 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024 | No special relationship with the Goat | Your sign has no classical harmony or clash with the Goat, so 2027 is read as a "neutral" year in which results depend on your own effort and on the rest of your chart rather than on the year sign. |
| Snake | 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025 | Seasonal (directional) Fire group with the Goat | Snake, Horse and Goat together make the summer directional group (巳午未), so the Snake meets a familiar, warm Fire-Earth energy in 2027. Tradition sees this as a year to push visible projects, while minding over-heating schedules. |
| Horse | 1990, 2002, 2014, 2026 | Six Harmony with the Goat | The Horse and Goat form a Six Harmony pair, so tradition counts 2027 as a supportive year: help from others, smoother teamwork and good timing for partnerships. Do not let the easy mood replace preparation. |
| Goat | 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015 | Own sign year (本命年, benmingnian) | In Chinese folk belief your own sign’s year is a "Tai Sui" year in which you sit directly under the year’s ruling star. Rather than bad luck, tradition reads it as a year of visibility and change that rewards careful planning; wearing red is the popular charm. Goat, Rabbit and Pig are also in the last year of the Korean samjae (삼재) cycle in 2027, called nal-samjae (날삼재), the "leaving" year. |
| Monkey | 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016 | No special relationship with the Goat | Your sign has no classical harmony or clash with the Goat, so 2027 is read as a "neutral" year in which results depend on your own effort and on the rest of your chart rather than on the year sign. |
| Rooster | 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017 | No special relationship with the Goat | Your sign has no classical harmony or clash with the Goat, so 2027 is read as a "neutral" year in which results depend on your own effort and on the rest of your chart rather than on the year sign. |
| Dog | 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018 | Punishment / break with Tai Sui (刑·破太岁) | Dog belongs to the Ox–Goat–Dog punishment group, and Dog–Goat is also a "break" (破) pair, so 2027 is listed among the years that "offend Tai Sui" for the Dog. Folk advice: keep paperwork in order, avoid risky guarantees and choose patience over confrontation. |
| Pig | 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019 | Three Harmony (Wood trine) with the Goat | Your sign shares the Wood trine (Pig–Rabbit–Goat) with 2027, a traditionally co-operative pairing that favours growth, learning and new networks. In Korean folk practice, though, Pig, Rabbit and Goat are in their final samjae (삼재) year, nal-samjae, so the advice is to finish things cleanly rather than overreach. |

Tai Sui (太歲) is the deity or star said to govern each year in Chinese folk religion. Signs that “offend Tai Sui” in 2027 are the Goat (值太歲, own year), the Ox (冲太歲, clash), the Rat (害太歲, harm) and the Dog (破/刑太歲, break and punishment). Temples in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia offer “安太歲” blessings around Lunar New Year.
Samjae (삼재, three calamities) is a Korean folk cycle based on the trines. The Pig–Rabbit–Goat group entered samjae in 2025 (Snake year), sat in its middle in 2026 (Horse year) and leaves it in 2027 (Goat year), the nal-samjae. It is widely known, mostly treated as light-hearted caution, and has no scientific basis.
In the Chinese calendar the Fire Goat year starts on Saturday, February 6, 2027 and ends on January 25, 2028. Korea celebrates Seollal on February 7, 2027. In Saju and Bazi the year pillar changes at Ipchun on February 4, 2027 (about 10:46 Korea time).
2027 is Jeongmi (丁未): stem 丁 is Yin Fire and the branch 未 is the Goat, an Earth sign. Its nayin is Heavenly River Water (天河水).
Traditional lists name the Goat (own year), Ox (clash and punishment), Rat (harm) and Dog (punishment and break).
By tradition the Horse (Six Harmony with the Goat) and the Rabbit and Pig (Wood trine with the Goat) are most supported. In Korean folk practice, Pig, Rabbit and Goat are also in the last year of samjae.
All three: the character 未 covers goat, sheep and ram. Korean uses 양 (sheep), Vietnamese Dê (goat) and Japanese hitsuji (sheep).
1907 and 1967. The next Fire Goat year after 2027 is 2087.
