Gi-Yu day pillar personality
- skilled
- detail-oriented
- polished
Gi-Yu is farmland at harvest time, full of ripe produce. Metal is Output for Earth and Gi is at its Birth stage, so tradition reads skill, polish and a talent for refining things. Gi-Yu people are neat, practical and often good with their hands or with detail. The flip side is critical perfectionism toward themselves and others.
The Gi day master
Gi (己) is the garden soil: practical, nurturing and detail-minded. It grows things step by step and quietly manages what others overlook.
Sitting on Yu (酉)
Yu (酉) is pure autumn metal, the harvest blade and the jewel. As a day branch it adds precision, neatness and refined taste. Its main hidden stem, 辛, is Eating God to a Gi day master (talent, enjoyment, steady output), so the inner self leans toward talent.
Like every one of the 60 pillars, Gi-Yu pairs a stem and a branch of the same polarity, so it is a purely yin pillar: receptive, inward and subtle in expression.
Hidden stems and the 12 life stages
Every earthly branch carries one to three hidden stems (지장간, jijanggan). Their share follows the traditional day-count table (월률분야) used by the site’s Saju calculator. Each hidden stem becomes a ten god when compared with the day master 己.
| Hidden stem | Element | Role | Days | Ten god | Theme |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gyeong | Yang Metal | residual qi | 10 | Hurting Officer | expression, creativity, rebellion |
| Sin | Yin Metal | main qi | 20 | Eating God | talent, enjoyment, steady output |
Life stage: Birth (장생)
Birth (Jangsaeng) is the stage of a new life: the day master is fresh, welcomed and supported. Traditionally it suggests a likeable, optimistic temperament, good relations with elders and a talent for learning. For Gi, that stage falls exactly on Yu, so the pillar’s own branch shows fresh growth.
Five-element balance
On its own, the Gi-Yu pillar is led by Earth (50%), followed by Metal (50%). Wood, Fire and Water are absent from the pillar itself.
One pillar is only two of the eight characters in a full chart; the year, month and hour pillars often fill the gaps. Tradition treats under-represented elements as balancing themes, for example Wood → green, mornings, walks among trees, starting a course; Fire → warm light, exercise that makes you sweat, social plans; Water → sleep, water, journaling, quiet reading.
Gi-Yu in love and compatibility
The day branch is called the spouse palace. With Eating God in the spouse palace, home life is relaxed, affectionate and food-loving. This is traditionally one of the most comfortable spouse-palace stars, as long as comfort does not turn into complacency.
As a Gi day master, Gi-Yu is caring and attentive, builds a cosy everyday life and worries about the partner’s wellbeing. Cardinal (“peach-blossom”) branch: Ja, O, Myo and Yu are the four cardinal branches. Tradition links them with Dohwa (桃花, peach blossom): charm, visibility and popularity.
Compatible and challenging day pillars
- Best traditional match: Gap-Jin (甲辰) — stems combine (己 + 甲 → Earth) and branches form a six-harmony (酉 + 辰).
- Friendly branches: Jin (Dragon) (six-harmony) and Sa (巳) and Chuk (丑) (three-harmony Metal frame).
- Most tension: Eul-Myo (乙卯) — the branches clash (酉 vs 卯) and the stem 乙 controls 己.
Compatibility in Saju compares whole charts; the day pillar is only one piece. Treat this as a conversation starter, not a verdict on any relationship.
Gi-Yu day pillar for women and men
Personality traits above apply to everyone. Gender enters only through an old convention: classical texts treat Wealth as the spouse star in a man’s chart and Officer in a woman’s chart. Modern readers apply the spouse palace to any partner.
Gi-Yu woman
No Officer star sits inside the Gi-Yu spouse palace, so for a woman’s chart classical texts read partner timing from the other pillars and the ten-year luck cycles. The palace’s main star, Eating God, sets the tone of the relationship instead.
Gi-Yu man
No Wealth star sits inside the Gi-Yu spouse palace, so for a man’s chart classical texts read partner timing from the other pillars and the ten-year luck cycles. The palace’s main star, Eating God, sets the tone of the relationship instead.
Gi-Yu career and work style
Career themes in Saju come from the day master and from the star in the spouse palace, which also shows how a person behaves in private and in partnerships.
- From the Gi stem: accounting and operations, education and childcare, healthcare and care work, food, agriculture and retail.
- From Eating God in the day branch: skilled crafts, food, teaching and steady creative output.
- From the Birth stage: learning-rich roles with mentors and growth paths.
Work that draws on the pillar’s keywords (skilled, detail-oriented, polished) tends to feel most natural for Gi-Yu.

Gi-Yu day pillar in 2027 (Jeongmi year)
2027 is the Jeongmi (丁未) year, Yin Fire over the Earth Goat, running from Ipchun (around 4 February 2027) to Ipchun 2028 in Saju.
| 2027 factor | For Gi-Yu |
|---|---|
| Year stem 丁 Jeong | Indirect Resource |
| Year branch 未 Mi (main qi 己) | Friend |
| Gi at Mi | Coming of Age stage |
| Day branch 酉 vs 未 | No major relation |
For Gi day masters Jeong (丁) is Indirect Resource and Mi is your own Friend root. Tradition reads a year of study, specialist skills and inner reflection, with strong self-reliance; avoid overthinking decisions that need action.
Yu and Mi have no major combination or clash; 2027 is read as a neutral background for the spouse palace.
Gi-Yu days in 2027: Jan 30, Mar 31, May 30, Jul 29, Sep 27, Nov 26. Some people like to schedule small personal milestones on their own pillar’s days, purely for fun.
Year readings are traditional entertainment. Make decisions about money, health or relationships on facts and professional advice.
Traditional labels and concept notes
- Cardinal (“peach-blossom”) branch — Ja, O, Myo and Yu are the four cardinal branches. Tradition links them with Dohwa (桃花, peach blossom): charm, visibility and popularity.
- Nayin: Highway Earth (大驛土), the “sound element” shared with Mu-Sin (戊申).
- Empty branches (gongmang, 空亡): In and Myo (寅卯), because Gi-Yu belongs to the decade that starts with 甲辰.
- Same pillar as the years 1909, 1969, 2029, 2089 (for the year pillar, not the day).
Labels such as Goegang or Baekho come from classical star lists that vary between schools. They are historical vocabulary, not predictions.

How to find your day pillar
- Open the free Korean Saju calculator and enter your birth date, time and city.
- Read the day column of your chart: the top character is your day master, the bottom one your spouse palace.
- Check births near midnight: schools differ on whether 11 pm–midnight belongs to the same day or the next.
- Unlike the year and month, the day pillar ignores solar terms: it is a continuous 60-day count, so Gi-Yu returns every 60 days.
