Gap-In day pillar personality
- independent
- upright
- leader
Gap-In is the great tree in its own forest: stem and branch share Wood and Gap is at Prosperity. Tradition reads independence, uprightness and natural leadership. It is listed among the Ildeok (day-virtue) pillars and, in some schools, the Goran pillars. Gap-In people grow tall on their own merit; listening and sharing the spotlight make them true leaders.
The Gap day master
Gap (甲) is the great tree: upright, ambitious and growing toward one clear goal. Gap people tend to set direction for others, keep their word and dislike bending their principles.
Sitting on In (寅)
In (寅) is the first spring branch, a tiger in a waking forest. As a day branch it adds courage, initiative and a taste for new ground. Its main hidden stem, 甲, is Friend to a Gap day master (peer, self, independence), so the inner self leans toward peer.
Like every one of the 60 pillars, Gap-In pairs a stem and a branch of the same polarity, so it is a purely yang pillar: outgoing, initiating and direct in expression.
Hidden stems and the 12 life stages
Every earthly branch carries one to three hidden stems (지장간, jijanggan). Their share follows the traditional day-count table (월률분야) used by the site’s Saju calculator. Each hidden stem becomes a ten god when compared with the day master 甲.
| Hidden stem | Element | Role | Days | Ten god | Theme |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 戊 Mu | Yang Earth | residual qi | 7 | Indirect Wealth | big money, activity, opportunity |
| 丙 Byeong | Yang Fire | middle qi | 7 | Eating God | talent, enjoyment, steady output |
| 甲 Gap | Yang Wood | main qi | 16 | Friend | peer, self, independence |
Life stage: Prosperity (건록)
Prosperity (Geollok) is the mature adult earning a salary: self-reliant and capable. It suggests independence, steady competence and a dislike of depending on anyone. For Gap, that stage falls exactly on In, so the pillar’s own branch shows self-reliance.
Five-element balance
On its own, the Gap-In pillar is led by Wood (77%), followed by Fire (12%), Earth (12%). Metal and Water are absent from the pillar itself.
One pillar is only two of the eight characters in a full chart; the year, month and hour pillars often fill the gaps. Tradition treats under-represented elements as balancing themes, for example Fire → warm light, exercise that makes you sweat, social plans; Earth → regular meals, routines, tidy spaces, gardening; Metal → decluttering, deep breathing, clear decisions; Water → sleep, water, journaling, quiet reading.
Gap-In in love and compatibility
The day branch is called the spouse palace. With Friend in the spouse palace, partners are treated as equals and best friends. Independence is strong; a relationship works best with clear roles and shared goals rather than one person leading.
As a Gap day master, Gap-In is loyal and protective, likes to take the lead and plan the future together, but can be slow to say sorry. Starting (“post-horse”) branch: In, Sin, Sa and Hae begin each season. Tradition links them with Yeokma (驛馬, travelling horse): movement, change of place and busy schedules.
Compatible and challenging day pillars
- Best traditional match: Gi-Hae (己亥) — stems combine (甲 + 己 → Earth) and branches form a six-harmony (寅 + 亥).
- Friendly branches: Hae (Pig) (six-harmony) and O (午) and Sul (戌) (three-harmony Fire frame).
- Most tension: Gyeong-Sin (庚申) — the branches clash (寅 vs 申) and the stems clash.
Compatibility in Saju compares whole charts; the day pillar is only one piece. Treat this as a conversation starter, not a verdict on any relationship.
Gap-In day pillar for women and men
Personality traits above apply to everyone. Gender enters only through an old convention: classical texts treat Wealth as the spouse star in a man’s chart and Officer in a woman’s chart. Modern readers apply the spouse palace to any partner.
Gap-In woman
No Officer star sits inside the Gap-In spouse palace, so for a woman’s chart classical texts read partner timing from the other pillars and the ten-year luck cycles. The palace’s main star, Friend, sets the tone of the relationship instead.
Gap-In man
Indirect Wealth (戊) sits in the spouse palace as the residual qi, which classical texts read, for a man’s chart, as a close and quiet but present bond: the partner star is “at home”. Being a hidden minor star, its influence is subtler and often grows with age.
Gap-In career and work style
Career themes in Saju come from the day master and from the star in the spouse palace, which also shows how a person behaves in private and in partnerships.
- From the Gap stem: planning and strategy, education and training, management and public service, founding a project from zero.
- From Friend in the day branch: self-employment, freelancing or any role with personal autonomy.
- From the Prosperity stage: self-directed professional work with steady pay.
Work that draws on the pillar’s keywords (independent, upright, leader) tends to feel most natural for Gap-In.

Gap-In day pillar in 2027 (Jeongmi year)
2027 is the Jeongmi (丁未) year, Yin Fire over the Earth Goat, running from Ipchun (around 4 February 2027) to Ipchun 2028 in Saju.
| 2027 factor | For Gap-In |
|---|---|
| Year stem 丁 Jeong | Hurting Officer |
| Year branch 未 Mi (main qi 己) | Direct Wealth |
| Gap at Mi | Tomb stage |
| Day branch 寅 vs 未 | No major relation |
For Gap day masters 2027 brings Jeong (丁) as Hurting Officer and the Mi branch’s main qi as Direct Wealth. Tradition reads a year of expressing ideas and turning them into money: good for launching side projects, presenting work or changing roles, with a reminder to choose words carefully with bosses.
In and Mi have no major combination or clash. Some schools list In-Mi as a “ghost gate” pair linked with nerves, so good sleep and routine are the traditional advice.
Gap-In days in 2027: Feb 4, Apr 5, Jun 4, Aug 3, Oct 2, Dec 1. Some people like to schedule small personal milestones on their own pillar’s days, purely for fun.
Year readings are traditional entertainment. Make decisions about money, health or relationships on facts and professional advice.
Traditional labels and concept notes
- Stem-branch harmony (干如支同) — stem and branch share one element, so the self is strongly rooted: independence and persistence, sometimes stubbornness.
- Ildeok (日德, day virtue) — a pillar of virtue in classical lists: kindness and good fortune that grows with good conduct.
- Goran (孤鸞, lone phoenix, some schools) — an old label about independence in relationships; modern readers see it as a reminder to balance self-reliance with togetherness, not a sign of being single.
- Starting (“post-horse”) branch — In, Sin, Sa and Hae begin each season. Tradition links them with Yeokma (驛馬, travelling horse): movement, change of place and busy schedules.
- Nayin: Great Stream Water (大溪水), the “sound element” shared with Eul-Myo (乙卯).
- Empty branches (gongmang, 空亡): Ja and Chuk (子丑), because Gap-In belongs to the decade that starts with 甲寅.
- Same pillar as the years 1914, 1974, 2034, 2094 (for the year pillar, not the day).
Labels such as Goegang or Baekho come from classical star lists that vary between schools. They are historical vocabulary, not predictions.

How to find your day pillar
- Open the free Korean Saju calculator and enter your birth date, time and city.
- Read the day column of your chart: the top character is your day master, the bottom one your spouse palace.
- Check births near midnight: schools differ on whether 11 pm–midnight belongs to the same day or the next.
- Unlike the year and month, the day pillar ignores solar terms: it is a continuous 60-day count, so Gap-In returns every 60 days.
