Im-In day pillar personality
- generous
- creative
- explorer
Im-In is water flowing into spring woods. Wood is Output for Water, so Eating God sits in the spouse palace: tradition reads generosity, creativity and the joy of nurturing ideas and people. The Tiger also holds Byeong Fire (Wealth), so the talents can become income. Im-In people are explorers; finishing projects is their main discipline.
The Im day master
Im (壬) is the sea: broad, intelligent and freedom-loving. It sees the big picture, connects people and ideas, and dislikes being boxed in.
Sitting on In (寅)
In (寅) is the first spring branch, a tiger in a waking forest. As a day branch it adds courage, initiative and a taste for new ground. Its main hidden stem, 甲, is Eating God to a Im day master (talent, enjoyment, steady output), so the inner self leans toward talent.
Like every one of the 60 pillars, Im-In pairs a stem and a branch of the same polarity, so it is a purely yang pillar: outgoing, initiating and direct in expression.
Hidden stems and the 12 life stages
Every earthly branch carries one to three hidden stems (지장간, jijanggan). Their share follows the traditional day-count table (월률분야) used by the site’s Saju calculator. Each hidden stem becomes a ten god when compared with the day master 壬.
| Hidden stem | Element | Role | Days | Ten god | Theme |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 戊 Mu | Yang Earth | residual qi | 7 | Seven Killings | pressure, courage, authority |
| 丙 Byeong | Yang Fire | middle qi | 7 | Indirect Wealth | big money, activity, opportunity |
| 甲 Gap | Yang Wood | main qi | 16 | Eating God | talent, enjoyment, steady output |
Life stage: Illness (병)
Illness (Byeong) is the stage of slowing down: gentle, sympathetic and imaginative. It suggests compassion, artistic or caring talents and a need to manage energy wisely. For Im, that stage falls exactly on In, so the pillar’s own branch shows sensitivity.
Five-element balance
On its own, the Im-In pillar is led by Water (50%), followed by Wood (27%), Fire (12%), Earth (12%). Metal is absent from the pillar itself.
One pillar is only two of the eight characters in a full chart; the year, month and hour pillars often fill the gaps. Tradition treats under-represented elements as balancing themes, for example Fire → warm light, exercise that makes you sweat, social plans; Earth → regular meals, routines, tidy spaces, gardening; Metal → decluttering, deep breathing, clear decisions.
Im-In in love and compatibility
The day branch is called the spouse palace. With Eating God in the spouse palace, home life is relaxed, affectionate and food-loving. This is traditionally one of the most comfortable spouse-palace stars, as long as comfort does not turn into complacency.
As a Im day master, Im-In is easygoing and open-minded, needs space and enjoys a partner who is also a friend. Starting (“post-horse”) branch: In, Sin, Sa and Hae begin each season. Tradition links them with Yeokma (驛馬, travelling horse): movement, change of place and busy schedules.
Compatible and challenging day pillars
- Best traditional match: Jeong-Hae (丁亥) — stems combine (壬 + 丁 → Wood) and branches form a six-harmony (寅 + 亥).
- Friendly branches: Hae (Pig) (six-harmony) and O (午) and Sul (戌) (three-harmony Fire frame).
- Most tension: Byeong-Sin (丙申) — the branches clash (寅 vs 申) and the stems clash.
Compatibility in Saju compares whole charts; the day pillar is only one piece. Treat this as a conversation starter, not a verdict on any relationship.
Im-In day pillar for women and men
Personality traits above apply to everyone. Gender enters only through an old convention: classical texts treat Wealth as the spouse star in a man’s chart and Officer in a woman’s chart. Modern readers apply the spouse palace to any partner.
Im-In woman
Seven Killings (戊) sits in the spouse palace as the residual qi, which classical texts read, for a woman’s chart, as a close and quiet but present bond: the partner star is “at home”. Being a hidden minor star, its influence is subtler and often grows with age.
Im-In man
Indirect Wealth (丙) sits in the spouse palace as the middle qi, which classical texts read, for a man’s chart, as a close and quiet but present bond: the partner star is “at home”. Being a hidden minor star, its influence is subtler and often grows with age.
Im-In career and work style
Career themes in Saju come from the day master and from the star in the spouse palace, which also shows how a person behaves in private and in partnerships.
- From the Im stem: trade and logistics, strategy and consulting, IT and research, travel, media and international work.
- From Eating God in the day branch: skilled crafts, food, teaching and steady creative output.
- From the Illness stage: care, healing, arts and imaginative work.
Work that draws on the pillar’s keywords (generous, creative, explorer) tends to feel most natural for Im-In.

Im-In day pillar in 2027 (Jeongmi year)
2027 is the Jeongmi (丁未) year, Yin Fire over the Earth Goat, running from Ipchun (around 4 February 2027) to Ipchun 2028 in Saju.
| 2027 factor | For Im-In |
|---|---|
| Year stem 丁 Jeong | Direct Wealth + combination 丁壬 |
| Year branch 未 Mi (main qi 己) | Direct Officer |
| Im at Mi | Nurture stage |
| Day branch 寅 vs 未 | No major relation |
For Im day masters Jeong (丁) is Direct Wealth and combines with Im (丁壬合, transforming toward Wood); Mi’s main qi is Direct Officer. Tradition reads steady income, attractive offers and relationship opportunities, with the caution that a combination can also tie you down.
In and Mi have no major combination or clash. Some schools list In-Mi as a “ghost gate” pair linked with nerves, so good sleep and routine are the traditional advice.
Im-In days in 2027: Jan 23, Mar 24, May 23, Jul 22, Sep 20, Nov 19. Some people like to schedule small personal milestones on their own pillar’s days, purely for fun.
Year readings are traditional entertainment. Make decisions about money, health or relationships on facts and professional advice.
Traditional labels and concept notes
- Starting (“post-horse”) branch — In, Sin, Sa and Hae begin each season. Tradition links them with Yeokma (驛馬, travelling horse): movement, change of place and busy schedules.
- Nayin: Gold Leaf Metal (金箔金), the “sound element” shared with Gye-Myo (癸卯).
- Empty branches (gongmang, 空亡): Jin and Sa (辰巳), because Im-In belongs to the decade that starts with 甲午.
- Same pillar as the years 1902, 1962, 2022, 2082 (for the year pillar, not the day).
Labels such as Goegang or Baekho come from classical star lists that vary between schools. They are historical vocabulary, not predictions.

How to find your day pillar
- Open the free Korean Saju calculator and enter your birth date, time and city.
- Read the day column of your chart: the top character is your day master, the bottom one your spouse palace.
- Check births near midnight: schools differ on whether 11 pm–midnight belongs to the same day or the next.
- Unlike the year and month, the day pillar ignores solar terms: it is a continuous 60-day count, so Im-In returns every 60 days.
