Gap-Sul day pillar personality
- practical
- loyal
- tenacious
Gap-Sul is a tree rooted in dry autumn earth. Earth is Wealth for Gap, so tradition reads a practical, realistic person who manages resources well and keeps working toward tangible results. The soil is dry and holds hidden fire, giving warmth and loyalty but also frustration when effort and reward feel out of step. Gap-Sul thrives with patience and a good water supply: learning, rest and support.
The Gap day master
Gap (甲) is the great tree: upright, ambitious and growing toward one clear goal. Gap people tend to set direction for others, keep their word and dislike bending their principles.
Sitting on Sul (戌)
Sul (戌) is dry autumn earth that stores fire. As a day branch it adds loyalty, a protective instinct and a serious, sometimes spiritual streak. Its main hidden stem, 戊, is Indirect Wealth to a Gap day master (big money, activity, opportunity), so the inner self leans toward big money.
Like every one of the 60 pillars, Gap-Sul pairs a stem and a branch of the same polarity, so it is a purely yang pillar: outgoing, initiating and direct in expression.
Hidden stems and the 12 life stages
Every earthly branch carries one to three hidden stems (지장간, jijanggan). Their share follows the traditional day-count table (월률분야) used by the site’s Saju calculator. Each hidden stem becomes a ten god when compared with the day master 甲.
| Hidden stem | Element | Role | Days | Ten god | Theme |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sin | Yin Metal | residual qi | 9 | Direct Officer | order, duty, reputation |
| 丁 Jeong | Yin Fire | middle qi | 3 | Hurting Officer | expression, creativity, rebellion |
| 戊 Mu | Yang Earth | main qi | 18 | Indirect Wealth | big money, activity, opportunity |
Life stage: Nurture (양)
Nurture (Yang) is the child in the womb being fed: protected growth and preparation. It suggests a warm, family-minded person who matures steadily and often gets support from others. For Gap, that stage falls exactly on Sul, so the pillar’s own branch shows protected growth.
Five-element balance
On its own, the Gap-Sul pillar is led by Wood (50%), followed by Earth (30%), Metal (15%), Fire (5%). Water is absent from the pillar itself.
One pillar is only two of the eight characters in a full chart; the year, month and hour pillars often fill the gaps. Tradition treats under-represented elements as balancing themes, for example Fire → warm light, exercise that makes you sweat, social plans; Water → sleep, water, journaling, quiet reading.
Gap-Sul in love and compatibility
The day branch is called the spouse palace. With Indirect Wealth in the spouse palace, the partner is often lively, sociable or business-minded, and dates tend to be active. Generosity runs high, so shared budgeting helps.
As a Gap day master, Gap-Sul is loyal and protective, likes to take the lead and plan the future together, but can be slow to say sorry. Storage (“flower-canopy”) branch: Jin, Sul, Chuk and Mi close each season and store its energy. Tradition links them with Hwagae (華蓋): reflection, study, art and spiritual interests.
Compatible and challenging day pillars
- Best traditional match: Gi-Myo (己卯) — stems combine (甲 + 己 → Earth) and branches form a six-harmony (戌 + 卯).
- Friendly branches: Myo (Rabbit) (six-harmony) and In (寅) and O (午) (three-harmony Fire frame).
- Most tension: Gyeong-Jin (庚辰) — the branches clash (戌 vs 辰) and the stems clash.
Compatibility in Saju compares whole charts; the day pillar is only one piece. Treat this as a conversation starter, not a verdict on any relationship.
Gap-Sul day pillar for women and men
Personality traits above apply to everyone. Gender enters only through an old convention: classical texts treat Wealth as the spouse star in a man’s chart and Officer in a woman’s chart. Modern readers apply the spouse palace to any partner.
Gap-Sul woman
Direct Officer (辛) sits in the spouse palace as the residual qi, which classical texts read, for a woman’s chart, as a close and quiet but present bond: the partner star is “at home”. Being a hidden minor star, its influence is subtler and often grows with age.
Gap-Sul man
Indirect Wealth (戊) sits in the spouse palace as the main qi, which classical texts read, for a man’s chart, as a close and strong, visible bond: the partner star is “at home”. Being the main star, it tends to show clearly in daily life.
Gap-Sul career and work style
Career themes in Saju come from the day master and from the star in the spouse palace, which also shows how a person behaves in private and in partnerships.
- From the Gap stem: planning and strategy, education and training, management and public service, founding a project from zero.
- From Indirect Wealth in the day branch: business, trading, investment and work that moves around.
- From the Nurture stage: family businesses, education and supportive teams.
Work that draws on the pillar’s keywords (practical, loyal, tenacious) tends to feel most natural for Gap-Sul.

Gap-Sul day pillar in 2027 (Jeongmi year)
2027 is the Jeongmi (丁未) year, Yin Fire over the Earth Goat, running from Ipchun (around 4 February 2027) to Ipchun 2028 in Saju.
| 2027 factor | For Gap-Sul |
|---|---|
| Year stem 丁 Jeong | Hurting Officer |
| Year branch 未 Mi (main qi 己) | Direct Wealth |
| Gap at Mi | Tomb stage |
| Day branch 戌 vs 未 | Punishment & break |
For Gap day masters 2027 brings Jeong (丁) as Hurting Officer and the Mi branch’s main qi as Direct Wealth. Tradition reads a year of expressing ideas and turning them into money: good for launching side projects, presenting work or changing roles, with a reminder to choose words carefully with bosses.
Sul and Mi form a punishment (刑) and break (破) pair. Tradition advises reading contracts carefully and keeping promises explicit in 2027.
Gap-Sul days in 2027: Feb 24, Apr 25, Jun 24, Aug 23, Oct 22, Dec 21. Some people like to schedule small personal milestones on their own pillar’s days, purely for fun.
Year readings are traditional entertainment. Make decisions about money, health or relationships on facts and professional advice.
Traditional labels and concept notes
- Storage (“flower-canopy”) branch — Jin, Sul, Chuk and Mi close each season and store its energy. Tradition links them with Hwagae (華蓋): reflection, study, art and spiritual interests.
- Nayin: Mountaintop Fire (山頭火), the “sound element” shared with Eul-Hae (乙亥).
- Empty branches (gongmang, 空亡): Sin and Yu (申酉), because Gap-Sul belongs to the decade that starts with 甲戌.
- Same pillar as the years 1934, 1994, 2054 (for the year pillar, not the day).
Labels such as Goegang or Baekho come from classical star lists that vary between schools. They are historical vocabulary, not predictions.

How to find your day pillar
- Open the free Korean Saju calculator and enter your birth date, time and city.
- Read the day column of your chart: the top character is your day master, the bottom one your spouse palace.
- Check births near midnight: schools differ on whether 11 pm–midnight belongs to the same day or the next.
- Unlike the year and month, the day pillar ignores solar terms: it is a continuous 60-day count, so Gap-Sul returns every 60 days.
