How to read these articles
“LPA” means lakh per annum, the way Indian offer letters quote cost to company (CTC). Your in-hand salary is lower because CTC also contains the employer’s 12% PF contribution and a gratuity provision (4.81% of basic), and because your own PF, state professional tax and TDS come out of every payslip. Each article uses the same transparent, typical structure — basic 50% of CTC, HRA 40% of basic, Karnataka professional tax — so the numbers are comparable, and then shows how the result changes with a 40% basic, variable pay, other states and the old regime.
Entry level: 3 to 5 LPA
Fresher offers. No income tax; PF and gratuity explain the whole gap between CTC and take-home.
6 to 12 LPA: the zero-tax zone
Taxable income stays inside the ₹12 lakh rebate, so the new regime tax is nil.
14 to 25 LPA: crossing the rebate
Tax starts just above ₹12 lakh taxable income, with marginal relief right at the edge.
28 to 50 LPA: the 30% slab
Every extra rupee is taxed at 30% plus cess; NPS and structure matter most here.

FAQ
How do I convert CTC to in-hand salary?
Subtract employer PF and gratuity (both inside CTC) to get gross salary, then deduct your own 12% PF, professional tax and income tax. Divide by 12 for the monthly in-hand. With basic at 50% of CTC that leaves roughly 88–90% of CTC in hand up to 12 LPA.
What is 10 LPA in hand salary per month?
About ₹71,122 a month in FY 2026-27 under the new regime, with no income tax.
What is 12 LPA in hand salary per month?
About ₹85,388 a month. Taxable income is about ₹10,24,154, inside the ₹12 lakh rebate, so the income tax is nil.
Up to what CTC is there no income tax?
With our typical structure (employer PF and gratuity inside CTC, basic 50%), tax stays nil up to a CTC of roughly ₹13.9 lakh, because gross salary minus the ₹75,000 standard deduction stays within ₹12 lakh.
Rates: FY 2026-27 (tax year 2026-27) under the Income-tax Act 2025 — new-regime slabs nil to ₹4 lakh, then 5% steps to 30% above ₹24 lakh, ₹75,000 standard deduction, rebate up to ₹12 lakh taxable income, 4% cess (unchanged in Union Budget 2026-27). Estimates for information only — not tax advice.
