How the numbers are worked out
All figures use the 2026 rates published by the Canada Revenue Agency and Revenu Québec: federal brackets of 14%, 20.5%, 26%, 29% and 33% with a $16,452 basic personal amount; provincial brackets and credits for Ontario (including the surtax and Ontario Health Premium), British Columbia (including the B.C. tax reduction), Alberta and Quebec; CPP of 5.95% up to $74,600 plus CPP2 of 4% up to $85,000; and EI of 1.63% up to $68,900. Quebec uses QPP, a 1.30% EI rate, QPIP and the 16.5% federal abatement. These are estimates for a single employee with employment income only; refundable benefits such as the Canada Workers Benefit are not included.
Annual salary = hourly rate × weekly hours × 52. Vacation pay (at least 4%) and statutory holidays are assumed to be paid, so a 52-week year matches a salaried job. If you are paid only for hours worked and take unpaid time off, scale the figures down.
