Hourly to salary in Canada: $34 an hour by pay period
To convert an hourly wage to an annual salary in Canada, multiply by weekly hours and by 52. $34 × 37.5 × 52 = $66,300; $34 × 40 × 52 = $70,720. Biweekly pay divides the year into 26 pay periods. Because vacation pay and statutory holidays are paid, the full 52 weeks count.

How $34 an hour is taxed in 2026
The federal lowest rate is 14% for 2026 — the first full year after it was cut from 15% on 1 July 2025 — on taxable income up to $58,523, then 20.5% to $117,045, 26% to $181,440, 29% to $258,482 and 33% above. The $16,452 basic personal amount, the Canada employment amount ($1,501) and credits for base CPP and EI are worth 14% each, leaving $6,559 of federal tax on $66,300. Ontario charges 5.05% up to $53,891, 9.15% to $107,785, minus its own $12,989 basic amount, plus an Ontario Health Premium of $600. Payroll deductions are CPP at 5.95% of earnings between $3,500 and $74,600 ($3,737) and EI at 1.63% up to $68,900 ($1,081). Of a $1 an hour raise ($1,950 a year) you would lose about 36% to tax and payroll deductions in Ontario.
Federal income tax only starts once annual income passes the $16,452 basic personal amount (plus CPP/EI credits) — at $34 that is roughly 9.3 hours a week, though CPP and EI are deducted from the first hour above the $3,500 CPP exemption. The 20.5% federal bracket begins at about 33.1 hours a week ($58,523) — below a normal full-time week. EI premiums max out at 39 hours a week ($68,900 of insurable earnings).
Well above the median. $34 an hour is about 10% more than the estimated Ontario median of $30.77 and 1.9× the province’s minimum wage. At this level you pay the maximum EI premium (EI stops at $68,900 of insurable earnings) and most or all of the CPP and CPP2 maximums, so payroll deductions stop part-way through the year and your last paycheques are bigger.
$34 an hour after tax by province
Federal tax is the same everywhere except Quebec, where a 16.5% abatement lowers it but a separate, higher provincial tax applies. On $66,300, British Columbia leaves the most ($51,899) and Quebec the least ($48,922) of the four largest provinces — a gap of $2,978 a year, or $248 a month. Quebec workers also pay QPP (6.3% instead of 5.95% CPP), a lower EI rate (1.30%) and QPIP parental insurance (0.430%).
| Province | Federal tax | Prov. tax | CPP/QPP | EI (+QPIP) | Take-home / yr | Total rate |

| Quebec | $5,443 | $6,832 | $3,956 | $1,147 | $48,922 | 26.2% |
$34 an hour part-time: 20 and 30 hours a week
Shorter weeks keep a bigger share of pay, because the federal and provincial basic personal amounts shelter the first chunk of income from tax. At 20 hours a week $34 keeps 83% of gross pay in Ontario, against 78% at 37.5 hours.
