MBTI Compatibility Calculator

Compatibility scores for all 256 combinations of the 16 types — plus 8 detailed chemistry scores, love vs. friendship vs. work, cognitive functions and love styles.

Just for fun. The compatibility score comes from simple rules this page made up. There is little scientific evidence that personality type predicts whether a relationship will work. This is an unofficial, independent tool. Not sure of your type? On each row, tap the side that feels more like you. If you have taken an official assessment, use that result.

How this calculator works

Each type is four letters: Extraversion/Introversion (E/I), Sensing/Intuition (S/N), Thinking/Feeling (T/F) and Judging/Perceiving (J/P). The main score starts at 30 points and adds points for each letter pair. Sharing S or N matters most here (+25), because it shapes how two people talk about the world. Sharing T or F adds +14 (+10 if different). Having different E/I (+14) and J/P (+12) letters scores higher than matching ones (+6), on the idea that opposite energy and planning styles can balance each other. Scores therefore range from 52 to 95.

The 8 detailed chemistry scores (conversation, emotional connection, dates, conflict, living together, texting, future plans and affection) and the friendship, marriage and coworker scores reweight the same four letters for each situation. The cognitive function section compares each type's function stack (dominant, auxiliary, tertiary, inferior) from Jung's theory.

Frequently asked questions

Is MBTI compatibility scientifically proven?
No. There is little evidence that personality type alone predicts relationship success. This calculator uses its own simple rules and is meant as a fun way to talk about differences.
How is the compatibility score calculated?
Every pair starts at 30 points. Matching S/N adds 25, matching T/F adds 14 (10 if different), different E/I adds 14 (6 if same) and different J/P adds 12 (6 if same), so scores range from 52 to 95.
Does a low score mean we are a bad match?
No. Couples with very different types often misunderstand each other at first, but once they learn each other's style they can complement each other well.
